News: Brian Wilcox receives 2007 Nicholas Hobbs Award

Brian Wilcox, CCFL's director, recently received the 2007 Nicholas Hobbs Award at the American Psychological Association's convention, held August 17 through 20 in San Francisco. The Hobbs Award, established in 1983, is presented annually by the American Psychological Association's Society for Child and Family Policy and Practice to a psychologist who exemplifies the ideals and devotion to child advocacy and policy characterized by Nicholas Hobbs. Hobbs (1915-1983) was a pioneer in the field of child psychology. He served on President Kennedy's Panel on Mental Retardation and was vice-chair of the Joint Commission on Mental Health and Illness, which gave rise to the Community Mental Health Centers Act and helped set in motion a revolution in the care of persons with mental illness.

Prior recipients of the Nicholas Hobbs Award include J. Lawrence Aber, Urie Bronfenbrenner, Jeanne Brooks-Gunn, Aletha Huston, Jane Knitzer, and Edward Zigler.
