News: Brian Wilcox receives the 2008 Public Service Award from the Society for Prevention Research

The Society for Prevention Research has awarded Brian Wilcox its 2008 Public Service Award. Each year, the Society for Prevention Research (SPR) gives out awards to organizations or individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of prevention research. The Public Service award is given to an individual or team of individuals in recognition of extensive and effective advocacy for prevention science and science/research-based programs. Wilcox, along with his colleagues from the William T. Grant Foundation, were acknowledged for their scientific approach to bridging the gap between research and practice, and for their support of high-quality research on youth settings and use of research evidence. Past recipients include Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa and former National Institute of Mental Health director Alan Leshner. SPR held their 16th annual awards ceremony in San Francisco on May 29, 2008, as part of their annual conference.

Brian Wilcox is Professor of Psychology and Director of the Center on Children, Families and the Law at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and a Senior Adviser to the William T. Grant Foundation.
