The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires all organizations and agencies who receive HUD funding for homeless services to track client information in a Homeless Management Information System (HMIS). Since 2003, members of the UNL Center on Children, Families, and the Law Community Services team have overseen the HMIS for the Nebraska Balance of State and the Lincoln Continuums of Care.
The Nebraska HMIS is a shared data system that supports a collaborative approach to serving people experiencing or at risk of homelessness and enables ongoing evaluation of the overall homeless services system.
Community Services team members support all phases of the Homeless Management Information System: helping participating agencies implement the HMIS to support their programs, providing ongoing training and technical assistance, facilitating collaboration through All Doors Lead Home Coordinated Entry, and providing essential Reports and Data to assess community needs and service gaps and to report aggregate data to HUD and other funders.
