National Adoption Competency Mental Health Training Initiative

The National Adoption Competency Mental Health Training Initiative (NTI) strengthens the capacity of the child welfare and mental health workforce to use adoption-competent, trauma-informed practice as they serve diverse populations. NTI is led by the Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E.). In 2022, UNL was invited to join the NTI team as the evaluators for their new additional 5-year funding from the Children’s Bureau to expand the reach of the NTI project to jurisdictions across the country.

CCFL’s Workforce Solutions team is leading the evaluation of national online training for child welfare and mental health professionals serving children and families moving toward or experiencing adoption, guardianship, or kinship care. This project evaluation includes the design and execution of various training evaluation activities, such as assessing NTI’s national reach, participant reactions, changes in participant knowledge and practice, and the growth of partnerships between child welfare agencies and mental health providers.
