The Center on Children, Families, and the Law and the University of Nebraska College of Law created the Children's Justice Clinic in 2017. Students participating in the Children's Justice Clinic serve as guardians ad litem in the Lancaster County Juvenile Court under the supervision of Director Michelle Paxton. The primary goal of the Children's Justice Clinic is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be high quality advocates for children and youth.
Thanks to a grant provided by Women Investing in Nebraska (WIN), the Children's Justice Clinic was able to hire a social worker in 2023. On April 17, 2024, WIN members toured the University of Nebraska College of Law for an extended site visit. Director Paxton provided a clinic update, and a panel of law students shared how partnering with an in-house social worker has empowered their advocacy for children as guardians ad litem.
